140 Years of Experience and What It Means for You

For over a century, Doar, Drill and Skow has been a trusted law firm serving the people of Wisconsin. With a rich history dating back to 1883, our firm has the reputation of providing exceptional legal representation for over 140 years. In this blog post, we will delve into the firm’s history, highlight the notable achievements of our attorneys, and explain how our extensive experience can benefit you in your legal matters.

A Legacy of Excellence:

Founded by Frank Fuller in 1883, the law firm initially operated under the name Fuller & McNally. After Fuller’s retirement, William McNally continued the practice until his death in 1923. It was during this period that the firm established its reputation for vigorous and diligent trial and appellate representation.

In 1908, WT Doar joined McNally’s practice and soon became an integral part of the firm. Over the next few decades, Doar gained recognition as a skilled trial lawyer and served as the President of the Wisconsin Bar Association in 1931. To this day, the firm proudly bears Doar’s name, signifying our commitment to excellence.

A Tradition of Public Service:

At Doar, Drill and Skow, we believe in the importance of not only serving our clients but also our community. Attorney Warren P. Knowles, son of a Pierce County judge, joined the firm in 1933 and later went on to serve as Governor of Wisconsin from 1964 to 1970. Knowles’ involvement in public service exemplifies our firm’s belief in making a positive impact beyond the courtroom.

Attorney John Doar, son of W.T. Doar, is remembered for his indelible impact on civil rights and justice in our country. During the 1960s, he played a crucial role in the U.S. Department of Justice, vigorously enforcing federal civil rights laws, particularly in the South. Known for his fearless advocacy, Doar prosecuted those involved in the murders of civil rights activists in Mississippi. His legacy extends to his significant contributions during the Nixon impeachment proceedings, embodying moral courage and an unwavering commitment to equality and justice.

Leaders in the Legal Field:

Throughout the years, our firm has been joined by attorneys who continue to uphold the tradition of excellence and community involvement. Attorneys James Drill and Ardell Skow have played key roles in shaping the firm and have been active locally as well as on a state level. Their dedication and accomplishments have earned them numerous accolades, including recognition as Wisconsin Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America for 20 years.

A Commitment to the Community:

Active involvement in public service remains a hallmark of Doar, Drill and Skow. Many of our attorneys have held positions of leadership in the St. Croix Valley Bar Association and the Wisconsin State Bar Association. We are proud participants in area legal clinics, local youth programs, and many other non-profit organizations, showcasing our commitment to serving the needs of our community.
